Gurd | Small, Quick, Impatient |
Tirak | - |
Thuruk | Huge, Slow-Thinker |
Tiraks are a humanoid species created by the night goddess Maktah. They are proud and fiercely protective of their believes and comes in three sub species. Legend tells that Maktah first created the Gurds the smallest of the subspecies. The Gurd women then draw attention of the cave trolls who mated with them and the resulting offspring was the next subspecies the Tiraks. History then repeated itself and the cave trolls didn't leave the Tiraks alone either, the resulting offspring where the Thuruks the last Tirak subspecies. How valid these myths are is debatable, the fact is that while all Tirak subspecies can mate the resulting litters will always be the same subspecies as the mother. Among all Tirak subspecies there is an imbalance of males and females born, for the smaller Gurds it is barely noticeable while for the large Thuruks only one litter in ten is female. The Tiraks falls in between that. This has given the women in Tirak societies a strong role and in traditional Tirak clan societies they are the matriarchal leaders. Another result of this is that the traditional Tirak societies have no concept of marriages or such relationships, the notion that individuals have exclusive mates have not come up.
The dominant subspecies are the Tirak, they are generally smartest and have a good compromise of power and intelligence. The Thuruk are next followed by the Gurd who are of least rank.
All Tiraks have a light fur usually brownish but grey and red colors are not unheard of. The Gurds tend to have lighter fur and while most are ugly by human standards some Gurd women sometimes manages to seem cute in human eyes. Tiraks have a pair of enlarged teeth in the lower yaw that is good for tearing up meat. Tirak also have an appetite larger than their statue would indicate with a small Gurd eating the same amount of food as a Human, a Tirak Twice that and a Thuruk four times that. This has caused some problems in population growth due to food shortages.
